Women's Ministry News - Mission Mites Offering & Grant Recipients

MISSION MITES OFFERING - take part!

March 6th & 7th we will be collecting our monthly mission mites offerings to support the national and Iowa West District grants for Lutheran Women in Mission.  We invite everyone to take part! Bring your Mite Box or loose change, dollar bills (and more) and place them in the large Mite Box in the Gathering Area. You are also welcome to take one of the small mite boxes for your own use at home.

This month we are highlighting the following two grants that our mite offerings will help fund:

LWML National Grant #8 – Lights for Christ Scholarship - Divine Savior Lutheran Church, $95,000

The Lights for Christ program developed by Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas and Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Zacapa, Guatemala will impact 12 impoverished Guatemalan children and their families who live in the Zacapa garbage dump by offering the life-saving Gospel of Christ, food and clothing, health and sanitation care, and school transportation to ‘the poorest of the poor’ with scholarships to attend Divine Savior Lutheran School. This education program covers most of their basic needs and equips these children in grades 7-12 to reach out into their community with the gospel. This request funds 90% of the projected costs for these youth to continue their education through high school. Since this scholarship program began, Guatemalan children and their families are worshiping at Divine Savior on a regular basis.

LWML District Grant #8 – Lutheran Bible Translators. $5,000

Rev. Carl Grulke and his wife Kelsey have served with Lutheran Bible Translators since 2016, arriving in Botswana in 2018. They share a love for the Word of God, and for helping it come alive in the hearts of those who hear the Good News. They use creative means, such as media, storytelling, drama and music, to share God’s story. Rev. Grulke is currently working as Exegete and Project Coordinator and Kelsey as Scripture Engagement Coordinator among the Bakgalagari and Wayeyi people. This grant provides general support for Rev. Grulke and his family as they continue to translate God’s Word in Botswana. Visit www.lbt.org to learn more about the work of Lutheran Bible Translators.
