Flood Relief: how you can help

If you have seen the pictures and videos and read articles/posts about the flooding in Nebraska and Iowa, you know there are a lot of hurting people. Here are ways to help.

Mission Central is working with the Nebraska District on a special flood relief project.  Download the form at https://missioncentral.us/mission-central-nebraska-flood-relief-project/. Make gift payable to the Nebraska District and send it to Mission Central, 40718 Highway E-16, Mapleton, Iowa 51034.

Orphan Grain Train is accepting donations for the relief of families devastated by the flood waters in Nebraska. Mail your donation to: Orphan Grain Train, PO Box 1466, Norfolk, NE 68702.

Other online links for ways to help include: lcms.org/givenow/flood; Nebraska District Disaster Response — ndlcms.org/disaster-response or LCMS Disaster Response — lcms.org/disaster.

And from Iowa District West:

Our hearts are broken as we see the destruction caused by the recent flooding. President Turner and Ellie Menz have been contacting pastors in the affected areas asking how we can help. We have also been in contact with the Nebraska District office and with the leaders of disaster response with our LCMS.

The first rule in disaster response is to NOT collect items until we know exactly what is needed. At this point (March 20), we need to wait until the water recedes and the needs are assessed. We will be coordinating efforts with the Nebraska District and with LCMS Disaster Response.

At this point, the best way to respond is to send donations that will be used when the needs are assessed. Donations can be directed to Iowa District West-Flooding and sent to Iowa District West, 409 Kenyon Road- Suite B, Fort Dodge, IA 50501. Please contact Ellie Menz, IDW Disaster Response Coordinator, with questions, concerns, or if you hear of individuals and/or communities who need help with flood relief. Contact Ellie at 515-370-1159 or ellie@iowadistrictwest.org.
